Sports: NBA Trade rumors, Kevin Garnett trade to Clippers in the works
The Sporting News reported on Feb. 3 that the Los Angeles Clippers are pushing for a Kevin Garnett trade. Garnett has a no-trade clause in his contract, so he would have to approve any trade before it occurred.
Garnett has one year left on his contract, a three-year deal worth $36.01 million. His 2014 numbers pays the superstar $12 million, so the Clippers have to feel that they are in position for an NBA Championship run for that kind of money.
Los Angeles and Boston team officials have been talking ahead of their game on Sunday. The idea would be that Boston would trade Garnett to Los Angeles for second-year player Eric Bledsoe and veteran wingman Caron Butler.
Currently, the Clippers are 34-15 and only sit four games out of first in the Western Conference, behind the Oklahoma City Thunder and Los Angeles Clippers. The Boston Celtics are 24-23 and sit in the final playoff spot, a disappointing year for the once proud franchise.
Garnett would replace Butler in the front court with Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan, while Chris Paul mans the backcourt as they wait for Chauncey Billups to return from injury.
Boston has seen Rajon Rondo and Jared Sullinger's season end and they might be ready to look at the future. Eliminating Kevin Garnett's salary through a trade could be the start of that
