Beyonce Admits she lip synched @ Obama's Inaugural..

Beyoncé Knowles held a press conference in New Orleans on Thursday where she talked about her highly anticipated Super Bowl half-time performance. But first, the singer addressed the elephant in the room.
When Beyonce walked on stage she asked the audience to rise, then proceeding to give an impeccable, LIVE acapella performance of the National Anthem. After she finished she asked the audience, simply, “Any questions?”

And questions the media indeed had! Knowles was drilled multiple times to explain what exactly happened at the Presidential Inauguration.
“I am a perfectionist and one thing about me, I practice until my feet bleed. I did not have time to rehearse with the orchestra, it was a live television show," Knowles explained. "Due to the weather, due to the delay, due to no proper sound check I did not feel comfortable taking the risk."
"It was about the President and the Inauguration so I decided to sing along with the prerecorded track, which is very common in the music industry," continued Beyoncé. "I am very proud of my performance.”
omg! Insider’s Kevin Frazier asked the second question of the press conference, asking about rumors surrounding a Destiny’s Child reunion, which Beyonce would neither deny nor confirm, smiling widely.

Meet the Star of VW SupeBowl Ad, Brother-in-law is Jamaican

Erik Nicolaisen from the VW Ad Campaign

You are an experienced talent in the business, working on numerous commercials. How did you get to star in this commercial?
The creators of the commercial were looking to cast “a Midwestern American, 35-40, who speaks in a thick Jamaican accent.” My commercial agents knew that I could do an above-average patois, and they managed to get me in the room.  After an initial audition and a secondary audition, the creative team decided that I was their “Dave Johnson.” The rest is history.
It should be noted that without the amazing creative team at Deutsch LA and the genius Director Tom Kuntz, this commercial wouldn’t have seen the light of day.  I’m very grateful to be involved in this ad.
KSA1
As a Jamaican, you were able to deliver a credible take of the accent for someone who is foreign to the culture. How difficult was it learning the accent?
Thick patois is difficult for me to mimic - and even harder to hear.  My brother-in-law comes from Jamaica, and to this day I can’t understand 80% of what he’s saying when he’s on the phone to his friends. I have been a lifelong reggae fan, and as a voice actor I have tried to put a little patois into my repertoire.  Going into the audition, I had a decent handle on the accent, but in order to be able to improve and riff for the commercial, I needed to have a more convincing accent and grasp of the vocabulary.  I got a ton of help from my brother-in-law to iron out some of the details, and provide me with some key patois phrases.
Do you like the Jamaican accent? Are you still saying ‘yeah mon’?
My wife told me I’m temporarily not allowed to speak patois around the house for a while. I drove her mad with my practicing for the commercial.  I imagine that a Jamaican, responding to his wife in a Minnesotan accent for 2 weeks straight would have the same affect.
There is a big controversy buzzing on the internet, that the commercial is racist. What are your thoughts on that?
People are free to have their own opinion on whether the spot is racist or not.  My brother-in-law comes from Kingston, by way of Linstead, and he loves the ad. I have his blessing, so I’m comfortable with the work. I had a long talk with him today about the “racism” claims, and he says he completely disagrees, as do Jamaican friends and family. “Out of Many, One People” is Jamaica’s motto he says, and on any day “a yard,” you hear Chinese, Black, Indian, and Caucasian Jamaicans all speaking in this same patois.

Did you get to meet Jimmy Cliff, who also stars in a commercial for the campaign? If yes, how was that experience?
Unfortunately, they had already finished his segment a week before we started shooting our spot, so I didn’t get to meet him. That’s too bad, because he was one of my idols as a kid – and my first reggae concert at 10 years old. As a matter of fact, I think the first two reggae cassettes I purchased as a kid were Black Uhuru Red & Jimmy Cliff’s Give Thankx-  I would have really enjoyed meeting him. I hear his new album is great too.

The VW America Marketing Officer Tim Mahoney said on CNN that “We obviously did our homework to make sure that we weren’t offensive.” While on set, what impression did you get from the creative people working on this commercial?
Frankly, I didn’t even consider that the commercial would come off as offensive. I was just busy on set trying to follow Tom Kuntz’ direction, remember lines, hit my mark, get my accent right – You don’t have time to take much else in. The Director, Agency, and Client all seemed pleased as far as I could gather.
You had a speech coach, what was that experience like? Any hilarious moments you can share?
It was helpful to have on set. When I’d get words or sentences that I needed to hear in patois, he’d help me out.   He was a nice guy, a Rasta musician from St. Ann’s parish I believe, now living here in LA.
What’s your day job and which state are you really from? Are you from Minnesota?
I live in Los Angeles with my wife and 2 year old son.  I come from Portland, Oregon, but I’ve been living in Southern California for about 10 years now. I’m an Actor first and foremost. Commercial and Voice-over have been my “bread and butter” as we say, but I’ve done film and television as well. I’ve done some writing and directing, and for a while I had a weekly comedy show at the Comedy Store.  I’m also the owner of a Painting / Mural company.  When I’m not acting I manage the clients and operations, and I keep my friends gainfully employed.  They’re some of the best artists in the world, check out their work: www.oldcityartists.com
Have you ever visited Jamaica?
I visited Jamaica in 2003. It was really great to finally see the island, after being a fan of the culture for so long.  I really only got to see the west side of the island, but it was great regardless. What stands out most is all the wonderful, strange food: guineps, ackee & saltfish, bammy cakes – we don’t have any of that here.
I almost got to go back a few months ago, as my sisters and their families spent christmas in Treasure Beach. I was invited, but unfortunately couldn’t make it.
 1
I will be sending this interview to the Jamaica Tourist Board, would you like to experience the authentic Jamaican culture?
I’m ready to return :)
What would you like to say to Jamaicans (who are excited about the commercial) and to VW fans?
Thanks for the overwhelming support of this commercial.

Get a $50,000 loan for Bacchanal... New Innovations, New Route n more

FOR its 25th season, Bacchanal Jamaica's organisers are 'shaking things up' with some bold innovations.
For the first time, they have teamed with a financial institution to ease the economic pinch on their supporters.

"This year revellers are given the option of obtaining a $50,000 loan which they can repay over a six-month period," Michael Ammar Jr, a Bacchanal director, told the Jamaica Observer. "The loans can be accessed from Easy as 123, a division of Proven Wealth Company."

Ammar Jr spoke on Tuesday to media and sponsors at Bacchanal's launch at the Knutsford Court Hotel in St Andrew.
"This venture is really to ease the burden of revellers having to pay for their costumes with just one payment. Now, they have the chance of paying instalments over a period of time," he said.
Ammar Jr disclosed that there is also a route change for the April 10 road march, but details are yet to be ironed out.
He said the decision came about based on requests from revellers, many of whom have been with the group since it started in 1989.
"Twenty-five years ago, a few good friends decided to bring 'Mas' to the streets of Kingston for all to enjoy. For years, they had participated in Trinidad Carnival and longed to share this experience with the people of Jamaica," he said.
"Many thought they were crazy and some openly opposed their efforts.
After months of working on costumes every night, planning and organising, 'The Oakridge Boys' presented the first Mas, 'Paradise'," he continued.
Over 300 'socaphiles' participated in the inaugural road march.
This year's 12 costumes were paraded Tuesday. They are sponsored by Digicel, Smirnoff, Appleton, Pure Country, Ammar's, FAME, and the Jamaica Observer.
The season officially begins on February 15 with a fete at the New Mas Camp, Stadium North, in St Andrew.
This will make way for the Socacise series on February 18. Each Friday, from February 22 to March 15, it will be Bacchanal Fridays with the first and only Saturday fete set for March 23.
The season rounds off with Beach J'ouvert on March 30, Soca @ De Sandbar on April 3, and Bacchanal J'Ouvert at James Bond Beach on April 5.
Le Masquerade Road March takes place the following Sunday.
Among the artistes booked for the season are Kes, Image and Company, Bunji Garlin, and Fayon Lyons along with their Asylum Band and Destra Garcia.

MURDER or SUICIDE? New findings into the untimely death of a Young Special Constable...

 Erica Virtue, Senior Gleaner Writer
Apart from being a great dancer and a computer whiz, young Special Constable Kennard Chong also vowed never to let his family down.
According to friends and family members, Chong - an only child for his adoring father - was a happy boy who grew into a well-adjusted young man.
Minutes before his final breath last Sunday evening, he called to say he was on his way to his parents' home for dinner. But that was not to be.
Initial reports suggested that Special Constable Chong had committed suicide at his upper St Andrew home.
However, later official reports were restricted to the fact that the special constable died from a single gunshot wound to the head. They made no mention of suicide or murder.
"This is officially an open investigation, and we are awaiting the results of the ballistics tests," said Karl Angell, director of communications at the Jamaica Constabulary Force.
He noted that two other persons were reportedly in the house at the time that the special constable was shot so that there was no rush to arrive at a conclusion on the part of the investigators.
"The Scenes of Crime people swabbed the hands and clothes of both persons, and those have been sent to the forensic lab," added Angell.
no reason for suicide
But even as the police carry out their probe, the family of the 23-year-old cop is adamant that he would never end his life.
"He had no reason to commit suicide - none at all," said family members and friends.
When The Sunday Gleaner team visited the family last week, grief hung heavy like a mango tree laden with unripe fruit.
The family members pointed to several questions they want answered before they accept that the man who had set his sights on leading the police intelligence unit would kill himself.
"Why would somebody who is right-handed shoot himself in the left side of his neck?" asked one family member as he pointed to where the single bullet wound was found on Chong's body.
"Without any knowledge of these things, logically, if you right-handed, don't the bullet should be on the right side of the body, or even in the front of the face? Why would he twist him hand so to shoot himself on the left side?," added the family member who asked not to be named.
The Sunday Gleaner checked several suicide-investigation websites online and they seemed to agree with the family member.
According to www.enotes.com/ suicide-investigation-reference: "The classic discharge to the temple is found only with a handgun and the wound will be on the same side of the head as the dominant hand of the victim. A left-handed person cannot readily shoot himself in the right temple."
who was in the car?
The family members are also asking questions about who took the injured Chong to the hospital.
The official report was that he was taken to the hospital by a woman who was in the building at the time of the incident, but the family members say they have been told that a man was also in the car when it arrived at the hospital.
"Less than a hour before we get the news that him kill himself, him did call and say him coming for dinner. That time him did upbeat and happy," claimed a family member.
The grief of the family members was compounded on Monday when the woman who was Chong's main caregiver after his mother migrated collapsed and died hours after leaving the hospital where he had been taken.
Merna Bennett, who the special constable called 'Auntie', saw him take his last breath at the University Hospital of the West Indies before he died.
Overcome with the weight of grief, the woman who was not yet 60 years old, gave up on life, family members said.
So in 24 hours, Linton Chong lost his only child and his sister-in-law.
"If I knew my son would die, I would take his place. I would give anything to be in his place," the special constable's father told The Sunday Gleaner.
"I just have this burning feeling inside, and I can't explain the pain. I can't tell you how it feels. He was my only son, my only child," said a broken Linton Chong as he placed his hand over his heart.
wedding two months away
The special constable would have been 24 years old on Tuesday, with his planned wedding being less than two months away.
Those who knew him said he had a strong sense of family.
"We had a thing between us where he always said, 'Never bring disgrace on the family, never let down the family'," said his friend Maurice as he argued that suicide would be the ultimate disgrace for the family.
Chong went to Montessori Centre, Vaz Preparatory, St George's College, Excelsior Community College, and Quality Academics.
He aced the Grade Six Achievement Test at age 10, and his father remembers having to write to St George's College to get the school to accept him at that age.
The young man, who joined the Island Special Constabulary Force (ISCF) in 2009, was assigned to Harman Barracks in the agro and environment unit.
Following his death, he was described by deputy commandant of the ISCF, Calvin Allen, as "having good manners and being committed to the job".
That commitment to the job is one more reason why his family is adamant that this was no suicide.

SPOTLIGHT: Interview with Reggae's New sensation CHRONIXX

Making waves in Jamaican (and worldwide) reggae circles, up and coming roots reggae artist Chronixx sat down with LargeUp to discuss his music, his musical community and the Rastafari movement. Named one of Large Up’s Top 10 Artists to Watch in 2013, Chronixx has been slowly building a name for himself with energetic live performances and a Major Lazer-backed mixtape, showcasing his conscious, Jah-inspired jams. Check what he has to say below and hit the link at bottom to jump to LargeUp for the full exclusive interview.
LargeUp: How did you get started?
Chronixx: My music come from early beginnings, from childhood days. I used to sing at school, in church, and then my whole family sings. My daddy, Chronicle, caused me to be very exposed to music from a very tender age. That’s where the music started for me. Professionally now, that’s when I was in high school. I started producing. Making riddims. But the music go from then until now. When I was 15, 16 I started producing and it was a great vibe for me.
LU: And you talk about Rastafari. Can you tell me how Rastafari influences your music and then this movement in general?
Chronixx: Our day to day life is based on Rastafari teachings. Haile Selassie I teaches us about education and the importance of education. He teaches about responsibility, and the importance of acknowledging your responsibility. Haile Selassie teaches about life, the economy and these things. So our day to day life is based on these things. Health, education, for the youth. So we put this back into the music. The thing with music is that people don’t just listen to music, they feel it. So if you sing about something that is not genuine, or something that you are not living, then the people won’t feel it. Like if you sing about your big BMW and you don’t have a BMW, then that’s some fake music. But when you sing about health and strength and spirituality and Rastafari teachings and you’re living it? People feel it and they identify with your feelings and then they connect better.
